Are you aware that 63% of Americans don’t get sufficient sleep during the week? Complex lifestyles, continuous stress and anxiety, chronic pain, sleep disorders, and many other factors contribute to sleep deprivation1

You might think that this is not a big deal; but, not getting enough sleep can cause serious health issues, both physiological and psychological.

Sleep deprivation potentially increases your chances of developing depression, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, and even cognitive issues such as loss of memory (dementia).

Lack of sufficient sleep affects your mood, impairs your judgment, and puts you at higher risks for illnesses like the common cold. It has the ability to reduce the body’s healing capabilities, thus increasing your risk for morbidity-related mortality.

In short, sleep deprivation unbalances your mind and body, leaving you in a state of unrest and unease. You definitely deserve better than that2.

Regardless of what the root cause of your sleepless nights is, you may have one possible solution that can help anyway: adding CBD into your nighttime ritual.

You may have heard about CBD. It is the non-psychoactive component of the cannabis plant that possesses numerous health benefits. There are several sources that can give you an introductory overview. You can check the following link: CBD Education: What is CBD? Also, we prepared another article for you that summarizes the latest CBD-linked research associated with sleep: How Effective is CBD for Sleep?

CBD proved to be a completely natural and non-addictive remedy for sleep disorders and insomnia, at the time where current pharmaceutical techniques were found inadequate. While derived from cannabis, CBD does not have psychoactive properties (see CBD vs THC).

There are numerous CBD products for sleep, including CBD gummies, oils, capsules, pillows, masks, and even CBD inhalers! Here is a wide spectrum of these sleep related CBD products.

CBD oil and gummies for sleep explained

As mentioned above, and in our detailed article about CBD and sleep issues, a lot of people don’t get enough quality sleep at night. Reasons are many and include having chronic pain, stress, and many others.

So, what makes the best CBD products for sleep?

CBD brands have created a niche within a niche, offering CBD products for those of us that need a little help sleeping and staying asleep for six to eight hours straight, every night.

Products range from the traditional CBD oil tincture that uses a dropper, edibles such as CBD gummies and CBD capsules, to CBD vaping and inhaling. They differ in terms of potency (see How Much CBD for Sleep) and the ratio of CBD to THC for sleep. Many CBD products contain trace amounts of THC but negligible to cause any psychoactive effects.

Many brands are adding herbs and other supplements to maximize the sleep assistance and regulate people’s sleep patterns. These include melatonin, chamomile, and valerian root.

Why Use CBD products for Sleep?

If you have a sleeping disorder then you know first-hand how debilitating this can be on your daily life. Not getting adequate or quality sleep can leave you exhausted and in a semi-functioning state during daytime.

Compared to more traditional over-the-counter or prescribed products, CBD is a non-addictive solution to getting a good night’s sleep.

Unlike many pharmaceuticals that are normally adopted, CBD has only a limited side effects that are minor. These may include dry mouth, diarrhea, reduced appetite, drowsiness, and fatigue; but, the one that has been reported the most is the dry mouth3

When It comes to adding any supplement or medication to your routine, it is always best to consult your doctor to prevent any possible harmful drug interaction. If you haven’t had the chance yet to talk with your doctor about CBD, you can read about how to do the approach here.

How We Chose the Best CBD products

If you’re familiar with CBD, you’re well aware that not all CBD products are created equal. When choosing CBD for sleep, it’s imperative to choose transparent CBD brands dedicated to both quality and safety.

When it comes to choosing the best CBD products we always make sure to keep the following requirements in mind:

Reputable CBD Brands

We only choose transparent CBD brands with a solid reputation in the industry, dedicated to providing quality products.

Natural/Non-GMO

Products must be made from all-natural, non-GMO hemp grown in the US. Natural ingredients need to be present naturally, produced with minimal processing, and extracted using simple methods.

Non-GMO is defined as a product that is produced without any genetic engineering and having ingredients that are not originated from GMOs.

Third-Party Lab Test Results

Products must contain third-party lab test results to ensure the cannabinoid levels in the product match what is claimed on the label and the absence of heavy metals, molds, or pesticides.

Active and Inactive Ingredients

We look at all active and inactive ingredients to ensure you’re getting the highest quality CBD products available. When possible, we prefer to recommend natural products made without any artificial ingredients.

An active ingredient refers to an ingredient that contains CBD.

Potency

Different people have different needs and desires when it comes to using CBD for sleep. So, we look for products that offer different potencies to meet everyone’s needs.

Some brands offer a wider selection of potency when it comes to their products, while others may have a more restricted selection. We do our best to find brands and products that offer multiple potencies.

Variety of Price

We like to include a variety of products at various prices to meet the needs of anyone within the set budget. When looking at the price of each product, keep in mind that they will vary depending on the strength, serving size, volume, and any added ingredients.

We try to portray all the needed information to allow you to make an informed decision that meets your personalized CBD desires and needs.

Extraction Method

We prefer to only recommend products that are created using clean, safe extraction methods. There are three common extraction methods when it comes to CBD extraction.

Solvent extraction uses butane, propane, ethanol, isopropyl, or alcohol to extract the CBD from the plant. It is the cheapest and quickest but the most dangerous method of extraction.

The olive oil method of extraction was the first adopted method for extracting CBD from the plant. It is a clean and cost-effective extraction that heats the raw plant material up to a temperature where it becomes activated. Its main issue is that the combined activated olive oil and CBD need to be kept in a dark and cool area to stay fresh. This can be somehow problematic to some CBD manufacturers.

The most common CBD extraction is the CO2 method, which is the most expensive due to the equipment cost. It produces a potent, safe, and chlorophyll-free product.

Keeping all this in mind, the following are CBD School’s picks for the top 10 CBD for sleep available on the market.

It is wise to make notes about the serving size you start with, along with any effects you may be feeling. Finding the right serving size for you can be a matter of trial and error. So, observe, notice and note everything down from what’s happening to you and at what dose.
